Civilian Review Board

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Civilian Review Board is in place to ensure transparency, enhance public confidence and trust, and improve the efficiency of operations.

Members of the Civilian Review Board review use of force policies as well as specific instances of use of force by Sheriff's Office employees.

At the conclusion of an Administrative Investigation and/or Supervisory Inquiry that involves the use of deadly force, an alleged use of excessive force, any instance wherein law enforcement action resulted in death or serious bodily injury, or any complaint referred to it by the Sheriff, the Civilian Review Board reviews the investigation, inquiry or complaint.

Following the review process, the Civilian Review Board submits a memorandum to the Sheriff containing a recommendation of approval or disapproval, a recommendation for policy modification or amendment, or a request for additional information or investigation

The Civilian Review Board is comprised of 14 members representing a cross section of the community. Applicants must be a resident of Seminole County, Florida, 19 years of age or older, and be a graduate of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office Community Law Enforcement Academy or recommended by the Sheriff’s Office Citizens Advisory Committee.
